The National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) has announced that it will honor out actress Jane Lynch, of Glee and Julie & Julia, for using her fame as a platform to further LGBT equality, and for being an outspoken advocate for creating safer, welcoming schools for LGBT children. Lynch will receive the honor at the NCLR’s 2012 Anniversary Celebration – which marks its 35th year – May 5 at San Francisco’s City View at Metreon.
NCLR said, “The Vanguard Award honors an individual whose life and spirit exemplifies NCLR’s vision and values of equality and justice for all.
“This year’s award goes to famed actress Jane Lynch, of Glee and Julie & Julia, who has lived an authentic life as an out lesbian while simultaneously achieving great success and visibility in television and film.”

(CBS) “Glee” star Jane Lynch is engaged to her longtime girlfriend, psychologist Lara Embry, the actress confirmed Monday.
Lynch, who plays sharp-tongued cheerleading coach Sue Sylverster on the popular Fox musical comedy series, told People magazine at the “Glee” mid-season premiere party in Los Angeles that she’s “thrilled” about the engagement.
“It’s really great. I never thought that this is something I wanted,” she continued. “It’s just the greatest thrill in the world to find somebody that you want to be with every day.”
No date for the wedding has been announced.
Jane Lynch is not a person who’s into sports, she just plays one on TV.
Thus, “Glee’s” ruthless cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester is picking a team in Sunday’s (Feb. 7) Super Bowl for reasons unrelated to football.Asked whether she’s rooting for the Indianapolis Colts or the New Orleans Saints, Lynch tells Zap2it, “I couldn’t even tell you … except because of Katrina and everything, I’m going for the Saints. I want them to have a win.”
That’s more of an opinion than Lynch usually has on sports. She admits she hasn’t paid much attention “since I lived in Chicago, where you have to be a sports fan or you get beat up. When I left Chicago, I didn’t care anymore.”
In fact, Lynch might not be anywhere near a television Sunday. She says she plans to stay away from Super Bowl XLIV. “The whole thing kind of depresses me, though I don’t know why.”
Super Bowl XLIV airs Sunday, Feb. 7 on CBS. “Glee” returns to FOX on Tuesday, April 13.

At the 2010 Golden Globes on Sunday, Jan. 17, “Glee” star Jane Lynch told the New York Times Carpetbagger blog that she plans to marry her girlfriend Dr. Lara Embry in May.
The couple met at a National Center for Lesbian Rights event in May 2009. Embry was receiving the organization’s Justice Award, while Lynch was there to introduce “The L Word” creator Ilene Chaiken, who received the NCLR’s Voice and Visibility Award.
Lynch has been vaulted into the TV spotlight this season as Sue Sylvester on “Glee,” garnering award nominations for her performance and wins for Best Ensemble.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
